SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald C. Gilkison of Godfrey, who passed away on May 13, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born March 3, 1937, in Springfield, the son of Isaac and Lucille (Biggs) Gilkison; he married the former Jean Pigott on August 23, 1958, in Sycamore; and

WHEREAS, He was a United States Army veteran and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree; he retired in 2001 as the vice president of administration from Olin Corporation; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of Godfrey First United Methodist Church, a board member at Riverbend United Way, Olin Community Credit Union, and Alton Memorial Hospital; he was one of the founders of the Inroads, and a board member of Riverbend Headstart and Family Services; and

WHEREAS, He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed mountain biking and hiking; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Juanita Tucker; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gilkison is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Alex Cannon; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Anna Gilkison; his six grandchildren, Sophie, Isabel, Jackson, and Caroline Cannon, and Isaac and Emma Gilkison; and his sister, Margery Saksa; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Donald Gilkison; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald C. Gilkison as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
