SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Geraldine (Hamilton) McCullough of Oak
4 Park, who passed away on December 15, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough was born in Mason County,
6 Arkansas; she spent her formative years in Chicago; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough graduated from The Art
8 Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree
9 in Painting and Art Education; she went on to teach in the
10 Chicago Public Schools and served as Chairman of the Art
11 Department for twelve years at Rosary College (now Dominican
12 University) in River Forest; she received an Honorary Doctorate
13 Degree from Dominican University after her retirement; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough's work is exhibited at the
15 Smithsonian in Washington D.C., the National Women's Museum in
16 Washington D.C., and many other galleries and museums; in 1965,
17 she received the George D. Widener Gold Medal for sculpting for
18 her mixed-metal sculpture, entitled Phoenix; in 2000, she was
19 presented the Oak Park Area Arts Council's Joseph Randall
20 Shapiro Award, an award given annually in recognition of
21 "exceptional contributions to the Arts"; and

1     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough served on the Oak Park Public
2 Art Committee and was an active chartered member in the West
3 Towns Chapter of The Links, Inc.; she was also a platinum
4 member of the Chicago Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough was preceded in death by her
7 loving husband, Lester W. McCullough, Sr.; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough is survived by her loving
9 son, Lester 'Skip' McCullough, Jr. and his wife, Mary; her
10 grandchildren, Scott and Kimberly; her sisters, Hazel
11 Collymore and Gladys (William) Davis; her brothers, Charles
12 Hamilton and Nathaniel (Joann) Hamilton; and her many nieces,
13 nephews, other family members, and friends; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16 her family and friends, the passing of Geraldine McCullough;
17 and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Geraldine McCullough as an
20 expression of our sympathy.
