SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Joseph F. Bernard of Antioch, who passed
4 away on February 16, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born September 6, 1932 in Libertyville, to
6 Charles and Anna Bernard; his father, for whom Lake Charles in
7 Libertyville was named, died of mustard gas poisoning in World
8 War I before Joe was born; he was a Libertyville resident for
9 most his life, residing in Antioch for the past 10 years; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was a 1950 graduate of Libertyville High School
11 and attended Lake Forest College; he served in the United
12 States Army and was a volunteer fireman for the Libertyville
13 Fire Department; he was an avid card player and was a Life
14 Member of the American Cribbage Congress, where he achieved the
15 rank of Master 2 stars, was elected to the Cribbage Hall of
16 Fame, and served as the Midwest Regional Manager; he was
17 delighted to have recently won his favorite tournament in
18 Raleigh, North Carolina and made many dear friends while
19 playing in the circuit; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He loved fishing with his sons, kidding with his
21 grandchildren, Snapple peach ice tea, Klondike bars, and word
22 or number puzzles; and

1     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and a
2 nephew, "Chick" Bernard; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Joseph Bernard is survived by his wife, Cynthia;
4 his children, Cheryl (Ran) Davis, Pam (Glenn) Diedrich, Stephen
5 (Nancy) Bernard, and Chris (Jennifer) Bernard; his
6 grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Diedrich, Rebecca, Shaun, and
7 Leah Davis, and Ethan Bernard; his sister, Mary Ann (Jack)
8 Meyers; his brother, Charles "Jerry" (the late Ellie) Bernard;
9 and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Bernard; and be
13 it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Joseph F. Bernard as a symbol of our
16 sincere sympathy.
