SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James M. Hurst of Peru, who passed away on March 16, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on July 2, 1937 in Springfield, the son of Arthur and Regina (Rademacher) Hurst; he married Betty Lushina on May 17, 1958; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from St. Bede Academy, St. John's College in Minnesota, and was a 1956 graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science; and

WHEREAS, He was a second generation funeral director of Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle-Peru, Ladd, Tonica, and Wenona; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Patrick Church, LaSalle-Peru Kiwanis, the Knights of Columbus, the Ladd Moose, the Ladd Business Association, the Illinois and National Funeral Director Association, and St. Vincent's Cemetery Board; he served on the Lighted Way Board for 36 years, the Illinois Valley Community Hospital Board for more than 10 years, and the Horizon House Board; and he was a founding member of Illinois Valley Hospice and instrumental in starting the LaSalle 911 system; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; and

WHEREAS, James Hurst is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Jim (Kathy) Hurst and John (Niki) Hurst; his daughters, Lori (Dave) Milus and Jolene (Tim) Plankenhorn; his fifteen grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard (Mary) Hurst; and his sister, Mary Ann Erickson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James Hurst; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Hurst as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
