SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rollins Currie, Sr., of Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, He was born on February 6, 1936 in Centralia, a son of Samuel, Sr. and Luvenia Thorpe Currie; he married Obnetta E. Robinson on June 29, 1957 in Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, He worked at the Bloomington Country Club, starting there at age 17 as a shoe shiner and working his way up with hard work and dedication; he retired as the assistant manager after 57 years; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Bloomington, under Pastor John Brown; he helped to get the church involved with the Midwest Food Bank deliveries; he enjoyed making food baskets around the holidays and delivering them to the underprivileged; he enjoyed golfing, watching the Cardinals play, and fixing up houses; and

WHEREAS, He loved having cookouts and hosting parties; he had a heart for children and loved planning birthday and Halloween parties; his favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving and Christmas; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Lamar Miller; his brothers, Samuel, Jr., David, Glenzo, Richard, and Joseph; and his sisters, Luvenia, Shirley, Mickey, and Joyce; and

WHEREAS, Rollins Currie, Sr. is survived by his children, Donna Thornton (James Greene), Kimberly Lilly, Kandi Currie (Kimberly Pai-ge), Rollins Currie, Jr. (Deann), Kirchell (Billy) Walls, Sheila Savinon, Corey (Kimberly) Driskoll, Rosalind Tony-Currie, Connie (Leroy) Walls, Terri Fountaine, and Marsha (Carl) Stewart; his sister, Helena Matthews; his Godson, Kevin Kutchma; his special friend, Gloria Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Rollins Currie, Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rollins Currie, Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
