SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-689 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Multiple Sclerosis Assistance license plates. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged a fee of $40 at original issuance and $27 at renewal. Provides that $25 of the additional original issuance fee and the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Multiple Sclerosis Assistance Fund, a special fund in the State treasury. Provides that $15 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-689 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-689 new)
7     Sec. 3-689. Multiple Sclerosis Assistance license plate.
8     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9 applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
10 issue special registration plates designated as Multiple
11 Sclerosis Assistance license plates. The special plates issued
12 under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles
13 of the first division, motor vehicles of the second division
14 weighing not more than 8,000 pounds, recreational vehicles as
15 defined by Section 1-169 of this Code, and boat trailers with a
16 gross trailer weight rating of 10,000 or less pounds. Plates
17 issued under this Section shall expire according to the
18 multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19 Code.
20     (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
21 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary,
22 in his or her discretion, may allow the plates to be issued as
23 vanity or personalized plates under Section 3-405.1 of this

1 Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or decals as
2 provided under Section 3-412 of this Code.
3     (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
4 $40 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
5 registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
6 Multiple Sclerosis Assistance Fund and $15 shall be deposited
7 into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be
8 used by the Secretary to help defray the administrative
9 processing costs.
10     For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in
11 addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged.
12 Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the Multiple Sclerosis
13 Assistance Fund and $2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of
14 State Special License Plate Fund.
