HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Carl R. Hansen of Mount Prospect; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen was a graduate of Lane Tech High School; he joined the United States Army in 1944, where he rose to the rank of first lieutenant and then major while in the U.S. Army Reserves; after World War II, he served in Germany, where he met his late wife, Christl Loeser; in 1952, he returned to the United States; that same year, he married Christl in Chicago; in 1954, he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen had a long and distinguished career in market research; during his career, he was employed with companies such as Sara Lee; in 1967, he founded "Chicago Associates", a company that specialized in marketing, management, and real estate; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen served as the 15th District commissioner of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1974 to 2006; he was well known as the sole voice of dissent on numerous issues before the Board and was the second-longest serving Cook County Board member; he also served as an Elk Grove Township committeeman from 1962 to 2002; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement, Carl Hansen served as an active consultant on various civic movements, including the Viking Ship Restoration Committee in Geneva; and

WHEREAS, During his years in local politics, Carl Hansen was instrumental in bringing the Third District Cook County Courthouse to Rolling Meadows; he called for juvenile court system reform, the streamlining of Cook County services, the preservation of the existing forest preserve acreage, and the closure of the wasteful Provident Hospital; he also pushed for county hospitals to go after non-receivables collection from those who are able to pay and blocked a landfill plan at Poplar Creek; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen enjoyed playing chess, tennis, skiing, and traveling; he was also extremely patriotic and a world history buff, especially when it came to his Danish heritage; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen is survived by his son and granddaughter; his sister; his nephew and nieces; and his half-brother; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Carl R. Hansen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carl Hansen as an expression of our sympathy.
