HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4 Plainfield Fire Protection District on the occasion of the 75th
5 anniversary of the District; and
 
6     WHEREAS, On July 1, 1935 the Plainfield Fire Protection
7 District was officially organized by ordinance and began
8 providing services through the Plainfield Volunteer Fire
9 Department; emergency medical services were initiated under a
10 separate governmental department and eventually absorbed into
11 the operations and authority of the Fire Protection District;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, Career fire officers, administrative staff, the
14 Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department, and the ambulance
15 services were all incorporated into the Fire Protection
16 District; and
 
17     WHEREAS, 540 volunteers have served over the last 75 years,
18 protecting and serving the people of Plainfield; and
 
19     WHEREAS, On August 28, 1990, a tornado hit the area and
20 killed 29 people and injured 350; schools, churches, homes, and
21 businesses were destroyed; 130 area fire departments aided the

1 Plainfield Fire Protection District during this time; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Today the Plainfield Fire Protection District has
3 become a department with 24-hour, 7 day a week service with
4 full-time paid fire and ambulance personnel; the current Chief
5 is John Eichelberger; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 congratulate the men and women of the Plainfield Fire
9 Protection District on this momentous anniversary; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Chief John Eichelberger as a symbol of our respect
13 and esteem.
