HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edmund
4 Joseph "Bud" Summers of Chicago, who passed away on November
5 28, 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on September 21, 1921 to Anthony and
7 Helen Suchomski in Chicago; as a child he loved playing
8 baseball, roller skating, playing marbles, and checking out the
9 girls in his neighborhood; Alyce Samkowski was one of the girls
10 he checked out, and after serving in the United States Army
11 Infantry during World War II, Alyce and Bud were married on May
12 3, 1947; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was known for quoting movies and television; he
14 was known for his creativity; he was the family counselor and
15 the decision maker; he loved to dance, was athletic, and was a
16 skilled marksman; he played the piano and organ and looked
17 great in a suit and tie; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He loved science fiction and had a wonderful
19 imagination; his children remember a visit to Florida to see
20 Disney World under construction and a trip to Cape Kennedy to
21 watch the launch of Apollo 15 that fulfilled some of his love
22 for space and the cosmos; and

1     WHEREAS, He is remembered for his strength and courage;
2 during World War II he was awarded the Bronze Star for his
3 bravery; he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs; and he was strongly
4 committed to family, which was evident by his 62 years of
5 marriage; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Bud Summers is survived by his wife, Alyce; his
7 children, Greg (Debbie), Mark (Sue), and Rob (Toni); his six
8 grandchildren; and his great-grandson; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bud
12 Summers; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Bud Summers as a symbol of our
15 sincere sympathy.
