HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Elgin city councilman Mike Powers, who passed away on December 7, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was a longtime Elgin resident and 1975 graduate of Elgin High School, where he played basketball and football; he attended Northwestern University, where he pursued a career in marketing and advertising; and

WHEREAS, He wrote a book about Elgin and his memories of growing up there, entitled: All-American Stories: Elgin Myths and Memories; and

WHEREAS, He was elected to the city council in April of 2007 and served for 16 months; he ran on a pro-business and a pro-economic development platform with a focus on improving city services; and

WHEREAS, He loved rock and roll, especially the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix; and

WHEREAS, Mike Powers is survived by his mother, Dorothy; his daughters, Taylor, Maggie, and Lauren; his brothers, David, Martin, Jerry, and Craig; and his sister, Carole Akemann; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Mike Powers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Powers as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
