HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff of the
4 Catholic Children's Home in Alton on the occasion of the
5 organization's 130th anniversary in 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Catholic Children's Home came from modest
7 beginnings in 1879, when the Precious Blood sisters of Ruma
8 established the Pio Nono Orphan Asylum in Piopolis; and
 
9     WHEREAS, In 1884, the Catholic Children's Home was moved to
10 Alton, where it provided care for dependent, orphaned,
11 neglected, and abandoned children for many years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Catholic Children's Home is the largest
13 private facility of its kind in downstate Illinois; the
14 facility has lovingly and devotedly served thousands of
15 children throughout its 130 years of existence; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The Catholic Children's Home has a very active
17 Special Education Department, which is designed to meet the
18 needs of children who have fallen behind in their education as
19 the result of emotional or behavioral problems; the home also
20 features short and long-term residential services and numerous
21 independent living programs; and

1     WHEREAS, The staff and faculty of the Catholic Children's
2 Home serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication
3 for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate the staff of the Catholic Children's Home on the
7 occasion of the organization's 130 years of dedicated service
8 to a vast number of needy children; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That we commend the staff of the Catholic
10 Children's Home for the warm and loving environment it has
11 provided for children to grow and thrive in and show our
12 respect for the many individuals who have committed themselves
13 to supporting the home; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Catholic Children's Home as a symbol of our esteem
16 and respect.
