HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Maxine Swanson on the occasion of the dedication of the Itasca Community Library in her honor; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Swanson has had a long and distinguished career with the Itasca Library Board of Trustees; she first became a Trustee in 1971; in 1975, she became the Board President, a position she has held since; and

WHEREAS, During Maxine Swanson's tenure as a trustee, the Itasca Community Library has undergone 3 building projects, including the construction of the building, the construction of a new addition to the building, and the building's renovation; she has also been an integral part of 2 successful library referendums in 1994 and 2008; during her time as a trustee, the Itasca Community Library has grown from a 9,000 square foot, one-level building into a 27,000 square foot, 2-level building; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Swanson was instrumental in the Itasca Community Library's incorporation of modern technology; her efforts enabled the library to utilize the best technology available to retire the library’s card catalog and replace it with an online database; and

WHEREAS, Following the library’s final renovations in 2009, the Itasca Library Board of Trustees honored Maxine Swanson's years of dedicated service by dedicating the entire building to her; and

WHEREAS, The dedication of the Itasca Community Library in Maxine Swanson's honor will ensure that future generations will know of Ms. Swanson's innovative leadership, hard work, loyalty, and compassion for the Itasca community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Maxine Swanson on the occasion of the dedication of the Itasca Community Library in her honor and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maxine Swanson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
