HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gregory R. Fischer on the naming of a new middle school in Aurora after him; and

WHEREAS, Gregory R. Fischer Middle School was dedicated on October 25, 2009 in honor of Mr. Fischer, an educator in the Indian Prairie School District 204 for 32 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fischer is credited with leading the district's transition from a traditional junior high school model to the current term-oriented approach to middle schools; the middle school model is a "whole child" approach that stresses the importance of social, emotional, and intellectual growth; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fischer retired in 2004; he began his career as a physical education teacher at Indian Plains Grade School and later served as the assistant principal at Waubonsie Valley Junior/Senior High School; he was later named principal at Thayer Hill Jr. High School; in 1987 he was named principal of Gordon Gregory Middle School and served for the next seventeen years; and

WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Gordon Gregory Middle School was recognized as an Illinois Horizon School; both Thayer Hill Jr. High School and Gordon Gregory Middle School were named Demonstration Schools by the Association of Illinois Middle-level Schools (AIMS); and in 2003 AIMS recognized Mr. Fischer's dedication and commitment to middle school students and their education by presenting him with the Robert Knight Award for Distinguished Service to Middle Level Education; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Fischer and his wife, Julie, have two children; their son, Josh, and his wife, Susie, have three children; their daughter, Alison, and her husband, Christian, are expecting their first child soon; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mr. Fischer on this honor and wish him the best in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Gregory Fischer as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
