HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the people of Bensenville on the 125th anniversary of the Village; and

WHEREAS, The first permanent settlers came to the Bensenville area in 1833; the region was called Tioga, which means "The Gate" and was originally the Potawatomi hunting preserve in the Bensenville region; and

WHEREAS, Between 1860 and 1880 agriculture was changing from diversified subsistence farming to specialized cash crops, then to commercial dairy farming; and

WHEREAS, In 1946 the Douglas-Old Orchard location was converted into O'Hare Field; today Bensenville is next to O'Hare, with major expressways and the Milwaukee Railroad also part of the Village borders; and

WHEREAS, The population of Bensenville doubled between 1940 and 1950 and between 1950 and 1960 it nearly tripled; and

WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1884, Bensenville is known for its high quality of life; today it is home to nearly 21,000 residents near the busiest airport in the world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the people of the Village of Bensenville and wish them continued good fortune for years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mike Cassady, Bensenville Village Manager, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
