HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jerry Pelz on his 40th anniversary as founder and executive director of the Northeast Community Fund in Decatur; and

WHEREAS, Jerry also works with St. John's Lutheran Church in Decatur; and

WHEREAS, The Northeast Community Fund distributes approximately 1,200 boxes of food each month to the community, helping tens of thousands in need; and

WHEREAS, In its first month of operations, the Northeast Community Fund helped one or two families with food and clothing; today the Fund helps families with emergency funds, prescription medication, diapers, baby formula, and paying utility bills; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Pelz is a graduate of Valparaiso University; and

WHEREAS, He has served on the original boards of Good Samaritan Inn and the Central Illinois Food Bank; he is a Board Member Emeritus for the Macon County Mental Health Association; and has served on the boards of the Decatur Mental Health Center (now, Heritage Behavioral Health), the Co-op Extension, Decatur First Call for Help, and the Boy Scouts of America; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jerry Pelz and wish him continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jerry Pelz as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
