HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vergil H.
4 Fletcher of Collinsville, who passed away on June 30, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was born on July 1, 1915; he
6 served his country with pride and distinction as a member of
7 the United States Army during World War II; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher retired after 32 years as head
9 basketball coach of Collinsville High School, where he led his
10 teams to two State titles in 1961 and 1965; he was named
11 Illinois National High School Coach of the Year in 1972 and was
12 picked as one of the greatest high school coaches of the
13 century; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was a member of the American
15 Legion Post 365 in Collinsville, the Collinsville Noontime
16 Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and Ss. Peter & Paul
17 Catholic Church in Collinsville; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher was preceded in death by his
19 parents, John and Etta Fletcher; his brother, Cecil; and his
20 sisters, Helen Baker, Audra Brown, and Rose Mitchell; and

1     WHEREAS, Vergil Fletcher is survived by his wife, Violet
2 Fletcher, whom he married on June 9, 1938; his children,
3 Marietta (Dr. Marion) Thompson, Dr. Marlene (Dr. Joseph)
4 Rotter, Marcia Yates, Marian (Bruce) Evans, Mike (Margie)
5 Fletcher, and Marc (Joan) Fletcher; his sisters, Marian Mauzy
6 and Ruby Kay Vozarth; his brother, Jack Fletcher; and his 13
7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Vergil
11 H. Fletcher; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Vergil Fletcher as an expression of
14 our sympathy.
