HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Greg DeCourcey on the occasion of his retirement as head baseball coach of Marquette Catholic High School after 33 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, When Greg DeCourcey took the position of head baseball coach in 1977, the Marquette Catholic High School went 8-13 and gained little notice; however, within the next decade, Marquette would enjoy its finest run in school history, claiming Class A championships in 1980 and 1984 at Springfield and finishing second to Peru St. Bede in 1988; under Mr. DeCoursey's direction, the 1980 team won a school-record 31 games and Marquette went 243-78 during the decade; and

WHEREAS, Greg DeCourcey ended his baseball coaching career with an astounding 641-351-2 record, the 8th best on the all-time IHSA win list; his record gives him the most victories among coaches in southwestern Illinois; overall, his teams captured 15 regional and seven sectional championships and advanced to the IHSA finals seven times, compiling an 8-5 mark; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement as head baseball coach, Greg DeCourcey will continue to serve as an assistant principal and physical education teacher at Marquette Catholic High School; and

WHEREAS, Greg DeCourcey serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Greg DeCourcey on the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Greg DeCourcey as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
