HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation of the Weldon United Methodist Church on the occasion of the church's 100th anniversary on June 6, 2009; and

WHEREAS, The history of the Weldon United Methodist Church began on June 6, 1909, when the present church building was dedicated; the building's original cost was $14,500; and

WHEREAS, As the Weldon United Methodist Church grew in membership, a new Education Wing was added and consecrated in 1958; the addition provided offices for the pastors, several Sunday School classrooms, a nursery, a kitchenette, and a Fellowship room; other renovations the church has performed are the redecorating of the sanctuary, the modernization of the kitchen and dining hall, the addition of an elevator, a beautiful flower garden, and the hanging of portraits of former members, among other changes; and

WHEREAS, In June of 1992, the church's membership grew once more when the congregation of the Shiloh church moved to the Weldon United Methodist Church after the closure of the Shiloh church; in 2000, another change was brought about with the formation of the group SALT, also known as the Salt Creek Parish, which united the Farmer City, Weedman, and Weldon churches; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the church's regular services, the Weldon United Methodist Church also holds many special events, including Bible studies, special speakers, musical groups, the M & M (Mission and Me) Club, an after-school program, and IYF for youth; and

WHEREAS, The congregation of the Weldon United Methodist Church will celebrate the church's 100th anniversary on June 14, 2009 with a worship service, special music, and a potluck dinner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that congratulate the congregation of the Weldon United Methodist Church on the occasion of the church's 100th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Weldon United Methodist Church as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
