HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Channahon Park District Commissioner George A. McCoy on his retirement from the Channahon Park District on May 27, 2009; and

WHEREAS, George McCoy was an elected Channahon Park District Commissioner continuously from August 1971 to May 2009, for over 38 years of elected service; and

WHEREAS, He was one of the five first elected commissioners when the Park District was formed in 1971 and is the last of the original commissioners to still serve on the Board; he served over 17 years as Park District Board President, and was involved in every decision and accomplishment the park district has ever had; and

WHEREAS, He has watched the District grow from a single leased park location to a park system that includes over 450 acres of public open space at 22 locations, with nationally recognized, award winning facilities in Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club and Heritage Crossing Field House, and a community center facility, aquatic center, and indoor roller skating rink; and

WHEREAS, During his time of service the District has won the National Gold Medal Grand Award as the top park and recreation agency in the nation among communities under 25,000 population; and

WHEREAS, The District offers over 1,200 different recreation programs and special events annually to the community, now numbering 17,800 residents; the District provides policy and budget oversight to an agency that grew from one part-time staff person and an annual operating budget of $34,500, to a staff of 24 full-time positions and over 300 part-time and seasonal staff positions, with an operating budget in excess of $4,450,000; and

WHEREAS, He and his wife, Juanita, have three children, Michelle, Denise, and George, and eleven grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate George McCoy on his retirement and thank him for his years of commitment and dedication to the Channahon Park District; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to George A. McCoy as a symbol of our respect.
