HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives thank Richard H. Hyde for his years of dedicated service as Mayor of the City of Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde is a graduate of Waukegan High School; he attended Bradley University from 1949 to 1953; he then attended DePaul University, where he earned his master's degree in business administration in 1961; he also attended Northwestern University, Northern University, and the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949; he also served in the USAF Reserve from 1955 to 1977, retiring at the rank of Colonel; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has had a long and distinguished career in education; he began his career as a teacher and coach at Warren High School, serving there from 1953 to 1959; he then served as Athletic Director, coach, and teacher at various Waukegan public schools from 1959 until his retirement in 1994 after 41 years of teaching and coaching; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde coached a State championship wrestling team in 1966 and State championship baseball teams in 1971 and 1983; and

WHEREAS, In 1985, Richard Hyde was elected to serve as the 8th Ward Alderman of the City of Waukegan, serving in that position until 2002, when he was elected Mayor; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde was a member of the Cleveland Browns football team; in 1991, he was inducted into the Waukegan Sports Hall of Fame and the Illinois Athletics Directors Hall of Fame; that same year, he was named an Illinois Outstanding Athletic Director; in 2001, he was inducted into the Bradley University Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has been a member of numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Our Lady of Humility Church Agency's Board of Directors, the Knights of Columbus, the National Athletics Directors Association, the Illinois Athletic Directors Association, the American Legion, the Waukegan Recreations Board, and the YMCA; he also served on the Waukegan Park Board, serving as the board's Commissioner from 1966 to 1975 and as President in 1968 and 1971; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hyde has served as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Richard H. Hyde for his years of dedicated service as Mayor of the City of Waukegan and wish him continued success and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Richard Hyde as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
