HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrea Andrada served as the Student Member of the Elgin Community College Board from April, 2008 to April, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has shown a strong commitment to Elgin Community College and helped bring the school closer to its vision of being the best community college in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has earned the respect of her student constituents and board members alike through her passion and loyalty to serving others; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada is known among her peers as a role model and advocate who takes the time to hear student concerns and then shares feedback to the Board; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication skills in compiling monthly student activities reports and reporting on them for the Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has shown diligence by her participation in pre-referendum (ENCORE) and referendum activities by serving on the buildings and grounds committee, sharing information with Student Government and Club Council, and participating in meetings with State and federal legislators to explain the need of campus expansion; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada is a supporter of a diverse campus environment and holds membership in Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, United Students of All Cultures, Asian Filipino Club, Organization of Latin American Students, Spanish Club, and the Ultimate Frisbee Club; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has shown benevolence by initiating and organizing a campus-wide collection for Kaibigan International, an amazing endeavor in which she traveled to the Philippines with hundreds of toys to give to underprivileged children on behalf of Elgin Community College; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada is an active member of the Illinois Community College Board Student Advisory Committee (ICCB-SAC), serving as the student representative on the Program Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada, as the student representative on the Program Advisory Committee, has initiated a community outreach program across the State to highlight the issues and promote awareness of Autism by holding information seminars and fund-raising activities at community colleges statewide; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada maintains high scholarly standards and has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA at Elgin Community College as well as been named to the All USA Academic First Team and is the Illinois Century Scholar as a result of her stellar academic record, community endeavors and campus involvement; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Andrada has grown tremendously as a leader during the past year, experiencing conferences in Washington, D.C., student trustee meetings, lobby days, numerous Board meetings, and earning the prestigious Gigi Campbell Student Trustee Excellence Award; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ms. Andrea Andrada on her time of service on the Elgin Community College Board and wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Andrea Andrada as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
