HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Sergeant Robert M. Weinger of Round Lake Beach, who
5 gave his life to his country in Jalabad, Afghanistan on March
6 15, 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was born on December 22, 1984; he enlisted in
8 the Illinois Army National Guard in January of 2006; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He graduated from Round Lake Beach High School in
10 2002; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He enlisted with 1st Battalion,178th Infantry
12 Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Woodstock;
13 Sergeant Weinger had been deployed in Iraq for two years for
14 Operation Iraqi Freedom and was one of the soldiers chosen to
15 guard Saddam Hussein; after returning from Iraq, he volunteered
16 to deploy with an infantry unit to Afghanistan for Operation
17 Enduring Freedom; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He and his unit were in Afghanistan helping train
19 local police and the Afghan army; he was promoted posthumously
20 from specialist to sergeant; and

1     WHEREAS, He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and
2 Combat Infantry Badge during his years of service; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Robert Weinger is survived by his father and
4 mother, Howard and Susan; and his brother, Paul; therefore, be
5 it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United
9 States Army Sergeant Robert Weinger; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Robert M.
11 Weinger and his willingness to serve his country, which led to
12 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Sergeant Robert Weinger as a symbol
15 of our sincere sympathy.
