HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kim M. Brunner, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brunner works for State Farm Insurance in Bloomington and oversees legal matters and public affairs, in addition to acting as corporate secretary; and

WHEREAS, He joined State Farm Insurance in 1987 as counsel at corporate headquarters; he was promoted to associate general counsel in 1991, vice president and counsel in 1993, and vice president-regulatory general counsel in 1997; he was named senior vice president and general counsel in 1998, executive vice president and general counsel in 2001, and executive vice president and general counsel and secretary in 2004; he assumed his current position in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Before joining State Farm, he served as counsel for the Illinois Department of Insurance and as government relations officer for the Nationwide Insurance companies; and

WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor's degree in political science from Augustana College and his juris doctor degree from the University of Arizona-College of Law in Tucson; he also earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1983; and

WHEREAS, He currently serves on the Board of Overseers of the Institute for Civil Justice, co-chairs the Civil Justice Reform Group, and co-chairs the General Counsel Committee of the National Center for State Courts; he is Chairman of the Board at Augustana College; he is also a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees of the Second Presbyterian Church, the McLean County Protect Our Nation's Youth Board, as well as a member of the McLean County, State of Illinois, and American Bar Associations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brunner is married to Donna, and they have 2 adult sons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kim Brunner on his retirement and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kim Brunner as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
