HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the pastor and
4congregation of Saint Stephen Lutheran Church in Antioch on
5their 45th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On September 13, 1964, Mission Developer and
7Minister Wilton Anderson arrived in Antioch to investigate the
8possibility of establishing a new Lutheran ministry in the
9area; on December 6, 1964, the first Sunday morning worship
10service was held, followed by a new choir and Sunday School
11being started on January 10, 1965; and
 
12    WHEREAS, On April 4, 1965 the Charter for organization of
13the church was opened and Organizational Sunday was held on May
142, 1965; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The congregation originally met at the Antioch
16Community High School; on December 3, 1967, the newly
17constructed church was dedicated; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After Pastor Anderson's ministry ended in August
19of 1979, Pastor Charles Miller began his ministry in February
20of 1980; Pastor Miller led the construction of a 5,400 foot
21expansion that was dedicated in 1988; Pastor Miller retired the

1same year; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Pastor Black served from 2000 to 2006; Pastor
3Ellen Arthur has served since July 2008; many of the programs
4include Headstart, Weight Watchers, and the Boy Scouts of
5America, the Open Arms Mission, Habitat for Humanity, the Relay
6for Life, and many other community programs; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9congratulate the pastor and congregation of Saint Stephen
10Lutheran Church and wish them the best in the future; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the congregation of Saint Stephen Lutheran Church
14as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
