HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend
4James L. Demus III, who passed away on September 23, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III was a graduate of
6Northern Illinois University and McCormick Theological
7Seminary; he also studied at Harvard Divinity School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as Senior Pastor
9of Park Manor Christian Church in Chicago since September of
101985; under his inspired leadership, the Park Manor Christian
11Church has flourished as one of the largest and most
12influential African-American congregations in the Christian
13Church (Disciples of Christ); and
 
14    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as the Executive
15Director of the Chicago South Side Branch of the NAACP; he was
16a founder of the Ministerial Alliance Against the Digital
17Divide; he was also the Co-Convener of the Disciples Justice
18Action Network; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III was the recipient of
20numerous awards and certificates, including the prestigious
21Community Service Fellowship of the Chicago Community Trust;

2    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III is survived by his wife,
3Eleanor; his 5 children; his 6 grandchildren; his numerous
4God-children; and the loving members of the congregation of
5Park Manor Christian Church; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
9Reverend James L. Demus III; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Reverend James Demus III as an
12expression of our sympathy.
