HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alex Lopez of Chicago Heights, who passed away on August 27, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez was born on November 18, 1965, in Weslaco, Texas; his parents were Jose M. Lopez and Maria Cruz Lopez; after he moved back to Chicago Heights with his family, he attended Garfield Elementary School, Washington Junior High School, and Bloom High School; he then earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Western Illinois University in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez began his career in politics in 1995, when he was elected to the Chicago Heights Park District board; he served as a commissioner until 2003; from 2003 to 2006, he was employed as the director of Thornwood Apartments; in 2006, he was hired to serve as the Chicago Heights Park District superintendent; in 2007, he was elected for the Chicago Heights City Council as alderman of the 2nd Ward; in April of 2009, he was appointed to serve as Mayor of Chicago Heights, where he served until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his daughters, Victoria and Alexandra Lopez; his parents; his brothers, Jose (Judith) Lopez Jr., Armando (Norma) Lopez, and Daniel Lopez; he was also the beloved grandson of Felipa Rocha and the fond uncle of several nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him as a very kind, dedicated, and devoted husband and father and as a great son, father, brother, and friend; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Alex Lopez; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alex Lopez as an expression of our sympathy.
