HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes the
3 immeasurable benefit this State receives from the law
4 enforcement community; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The law enforcement community attains many needed
6 supplies from the Law Enforcement Surplus Office (LESO),
7 operated by the Department of Central Management Services and
8 supplied by the Department of Defense; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The LESO has been short supplied in recent months,
10 putting law enforcement agencies at a disadvantage for
11 attaining necessary supplies; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The FCC has mandated a changeover to narrow-band
13 frequencies for public safety; and
 
14     WHEREAS, This mandated changeover is costing public safety
15 agencies, including law enforcement and fire safety agencies,
16 thousand of dollars out of their already limited budgets; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The timeframe for the changeover has changed for
18 some Illinois communities, putting them in an untenable
19 situation; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 strongly urge the United States Congress to place public safety
4 communications infrastructure and supplies at the top of their
5 stimulus package priority list; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That we strongly urge the United States
7 Department of Defense to renew and increase its supply of
8 essential equipment to Illinois public safety officers through
9 LESO; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11 delivered to the Majority Leader and Minority Leader of the
12 United States Senate, the Speaker and Minority Leader of the
13 United States House of Representatives, to each member of the
14 Illinois congressional delegation, and to the Secretary of the
15 United States Department of Defense.
