| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate John T. Hooker on | 4 | | the occasion of winning the Circle of Friends Award from the | 5 | | Chicago State University (CSU) Foundation in recognition of his | 6 | | outstanding commitment to the success of CSU students; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Hooker was born on November 25, 1948, in | 8 | | Chicago; he grew up in Chicago's Lawndale community and | 9 | | attended Theodore Hertzel Elementary School, Hess Upper Grade | 10 | | Center, and Farragut High School; while at Hess, he was | 11 | | inspired by civil rights activist Al Raby and teacher Warner | 12 | | Sanders; after graduating from Farragut in 1966, he got married | 13 | | and was hired by Commonwealth Edison that same year; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Hooker began his career at ComEd in the | 15 | | company mailroom, where he learned as much as possible about | 16 | | the company; he steadily ascended through the ranks, from clerk | 17 | | typist to time keeper to material clerk; by 1974, he was | 18 | | promoted to the position of human relations representative; in | 19 | | 1976, he began working in the marketing department, where he | 20 | | was promoted to director of marketing for Bolingbrook and the | 21 | | western suburbs in 1984; in 1987, he became the ComEd liaison | 22 | | to the late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and the Chicago | 23 | | City Hall; in 1990, he earned his bachelor's degree from |

| 1 | | Chicago State University and helped found the Exelon African | 2 | | American Members Association (EAAMA); during this time, he | 3 | | served as area manager for ComEd in the western Chicago suburbs | 4 | | and director of external affairs; in 1995, he was named | 5 | | director of governmental affairs, which enabled him to | 6 | | influence the passage of the Illinois Consumer Choice Law of | 7 | | 1997; he was then promoted to vice president of property | 8 | | management for Exelon Energy Delivery; in 2000, he became an | 9 | | officer of ComEd; in 2004, he was appointed senior vice | 10 | | president of Commonwealth Edison; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Hooker was a 1994 participant in Leadership | 12 | | Greater Chicago; he serves on several boards, including the | 13 | | Chicago State University Foundation, the Peoples Consumer | 14 | | Cooperative, the Safer Foundation, Junior Achievement, and the | 15 | | African American Initiative; he is a member of the American | 16 | | Association of Blacks in Energy and Chicago University's | 17 | | Business Hall of Fame Committee; he is also involved in the | 18 | | Chicago Public School's Youth Motivation program; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Hooker and his loving wife, Kim, live in | 20 | | Chicago; the couple has 3 adult children; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, John Hooker serves as a model of hard work, | 22 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | 23 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 3 | | congratulate John T. Hooker on the occasion of winning the | 4 | | Circle of Friends Award and wish him continued success and | 5 | | happiness in the future; and be it further
