HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor and congratulate the Honorable Michael Stuttley, Chief Judge of the Sixth Municipal District of the Circuit Court of Cook County, on his retirement on August 20, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley is a native of Cook County, born in Chicago Housing Authority's Altgeld Gardens housing project, and was one of twelve children; he is rooted in the community and maintains a basic philosophy from the bench: "If a child is willing to make amends for his/her wrongdoing, we have the tools to assist."; and

WHEREAS, Honorable Michael W. Stuttley earned a Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School of Chicago; Judge Stuttley was admitted to the Illinois Bar on November 5, 1979; over the past 19 years he has served as a judge for the circuit court of Cook County and the past 15 years has served in Juvenile Court; and

WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley is the Supervising Judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Juvenile Division, and Presiding Judge for the Sixth Municipal District of Cook County; Judge Stuttley's trial and legal experience includes administrative law, criminal defense, family law, personal injury, real estate transactions and development, probate taxation, and juvenile law; and

WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley has been recognized with more than 300 awards and honors for his volunteerism and community service; he presently serves as Chair of the South Suburban Disproportionate Minority Confinement Forum on Youth (SSDMC) Foundation as well as on the board of directors for numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Altgeld Health Center, Roseland Community Hospital, Illinois Judges' Association, South Suburban Juvenile Officers Association, and the University of Chicago Office of Special Programs; and

WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley also serves as a Judicial Mentor, Chief Judges Mentoring Program, Circuit Court of Cook County and Facilitator, Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Performance, among many other civic duties; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judge Stuttley on his retirement and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Michael Stuttley as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
