HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elvia Lee Steward on the occasion of her 94th birthday on August 26, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Elvia Steward retired from the Manteno Mental Health Center in 1980 after many years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Elvia Steward served as the Pembroke Township Clerk; she was a Co-County Chairman of the Democratic Party; she was a member of the board of the Pembroke Area Family Health Center; she is a charter member of the first Sheriff's Merit Commission; she is a charter member of AFSCME Council 31 and a past vice president and charter member of the AFSCME Subchapter 57 Retirees; she served as President of the Kankakee Mental Health Council; she was a member and past President of the Pembroke Community Chorus; she was a charter member of the Habitat for Humanity Board in Pembroke Township; she is a member of the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board; she serves as Chairperson of the Kankakee TRIAD of the Kankakee Sheriff's Department; she also serves as Treasurer of the Center for Re-Education and Family Training; and

WHEREAS, Elvia Steward has volunteered great amounts of her time and energy to charitable causes, including food pantries and various community organizations; and

WHEREAS, Elvia Steward is a member and choir member of the Pembroke Community Reformed Church in Pembroke Township; she also serves as a Sunday School teacher, Past President of the Women's Guild, and a member of the Scholarships and Benevolence Committees at the church and has been designated Senior of the Year several times; and

WHEREAS, Elvia Steward serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Elvia Lee Steward on the occasion of her 94th birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Elvia Steward as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
