HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Otis L.
4 "Otie" Miller of Belleville, who passed away on May 1, 2010;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Otis Miller was born on August 8, 1933, in
7 Belleville; his parents were Otis L. Miller Sr. and Viola A.,
8 nee Neubarth, Miller; he married Sandra Jo, nee Schilling,
9 Miller on June 16, 1962; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Otis Miller earned his bachelor's and master's
11 degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and his
12 Ph.D. from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Otis Miller retired after serving as a college
14 professor for several years at the former Belleville Area
15 College and had previously taught for 9 years at Belleville
16 Township High School; he was also the co-owner and operator of
17 the Belleville Coin Shop on East Main Street in Belleville; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Otis Miller served as an Illinois State
19 Representative from 1961 to 1962; he served as the acting Mayor
20 of Belleville for 6 months from 1978 to 1979 and served as
21 alderman for the 7th Ward in Belleville; he was also a former

1 police and fire commissioner and served on the Belleville
2 Public Library Board; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Otis Miller was a member of the Christ United
4 Church of Christ in Belleville and a former member of the
5 United States Army Reserves; he was also a 32nd degree member
6 of St. Clair Masonic Lodge #24 in Belleville; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Otis Miller was preceded in death by his parents;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Otis Miller is survived by his wife of 47 years,
10 Sandra Jo; his daughters, Deborah Jo (Jason) Houk and Stacy
11 Lynn (David) Collins; and his granddaughter, Abby Collins;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Otis
16 L. "Otie" Miller; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Otis Miller as an expression of our
19 sympathy.
