HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mike Gordy on his retirement from Community High School District 117 in Antioch; and

WHEREAS, Mike Gordy has served as the advisor for the student run publication, the Tom-Tom, for 32 years; the Tom-Tom has won State and national awards for its many qualities, including the use of digital photography; and

WHEREAS, The Tom-Tom has won the National Scholastic Press All-American award 13 times in the last 20 years; the newspaper has also won the All-KEMPA award 15 times in the last 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gordy has taught Electronic Publishing classes, introducing students to new technology in computers, Internet accessibility, and website building; he has also taught Intro to Journalism and Newspaper Journalism; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he has contributed to English I and II as part of the English Department; over the last two years he has worked with freshmen, helping them to read and write better; and

WHEREAS, Mike Gordy has also served as a Sequoit assistant football coach; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mike Gordy on his retirement, thank him for his service, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mike Gordy as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
