| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Joshua VanAssche | | 4 |
| of Boy Scout Troop 493 in Schaumburg on the occasion of
| | 5 |
| attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; and
| | 6 |
| WHEREAS, Joshua is a member of the Order of the Arrow; he | | 7 |
| is involved with church and helps with the St. Matthew's | | 8 |
| Religious Education Program; he is on the freshman lacrosse | | 9 |
| team and was accepted to the Project Lead the Way Engineering | | 10 |
| Program at Conant; and
| | 11 |
| WHEREAS, His friend, Emily, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's | | 12 |
| Llymphoma in 2008 and became the inspiration for Joshua's Eagle | | 13 |
| Scout project; he made Emily a fleece blanket in her favorite | | 14 |
| color; later, after learning about Project Linus, he began | | 15 |
| making blankets to comfort children who are critically ill, | | 16 |
| traumatized, or in need; and

| WHEREAS, Together with support from local businesses, his | | 18 |
| church, local schools, his scout troop, the local Cub and Girl | | 19 |
| Scout organizations, family, friends, and other volunteers, | | 20 |
| Joshua has made and delivered over 450 blankets, the largest | | 21 |
| donation that Project Linus has received to date; and

| WHEREAS, The best news is that now his friend Emily is | | 2 |
| cancer free; she runs for her school's cross country team and | | 3 |
| together with her family, made over 26 blankets for Project | | 4 |
| Linus; and
| | 5 |
| WHEREAS, Joshua has been nominated for Schaumburg's | | 6 |
| Volunteer of the Year Award in the Youth Individual category; | | 7 |
| he was nominated by the Faith Formation Coordinator and one of | | 8 |
| the teachers from St. Matthew's; and
| | 9 |
| WHEREAS, His official Eagle Court of Honor will be held on | | 10 |
| April 10, 2010 at St. Matthew's Hughes Center in Schaumburg; | | 11 |
| and
| | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Joshua VanAssche serves as a model of hard work,
| | 13 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
| | 14 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it
| | 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | | 16 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | | 17 |
| congratulate Joshua VanAssche on achieving the rank of Eagle | | 18 |
| Scout; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 20 |
| presented to Joshua VanAssche as a symbol of our respect and | | 21 |
| esteem.
