HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the United States and the largest private non-profit university in the Midwest; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its history, DePaul University has been dedicated to helping and educating the economically disadvantaged; and

WHEREAS, DePaul University has worked with the Illinois House of Representatives and higher education agencies in Illinois to improve the quality and affordability of higher education in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, the faculty, students, and staff of DePaul University will celebrate the work and accomplishments of its namesake, St. Vincent DePaul, and St. Louise de Marillac, founder of the Daughters of Charity, during the 350th anniversary of their deaths; and

WHEREAS, In honoring the example of St. Vincent and St. Louise through its mission of education and service, DePaul University is embarking on a capital campaign called "Many Dreams, One Mission"; and

WHEREAS, The campaign will raise funds to build campus facilities that will enhance the University's academically-rigorous and nationally-acclaimed programs of study and provide scholarship assistance to more students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the faculty, students, and staff of DePaul University for the university's many contributions to higher education and community service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we join with DePaul University to celebrate the 350th anniversary of St. Vincent DePaul and St. Louise DeMarillac; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Dennis H. Holtschneider, President of DePaul University, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
