SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

220 ILCS 5/8-515 new

Amends the Public Utilities Act. Provides that the Illinois Commerce Commission shall require that if a customer elects to suspend gas service for a portion of the year, then the gas utility may not charge that customer a gas meter fee or penalty during the period that service is suspended. Effective July 1, 2010.

AN ACT concerning utilities.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding Section 8-515 as follows:

Sec. 8-515. Voluntary suspension of gas service; fees prohibited. The Commission shall require that if a customer elects to suspend gas service for a portion of the year, then the gas utility may not charge that customer a gas meter fee or penalty during the period that service is suspended.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, 2010.
