SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Calvin Oren "Cal" Rolloff of Moline, who passed away on October 23, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff was born on the family farm in New Ulm, Minnesota to Herman and Oralia (Lambert) Rolloff on September 18, 1934; he graduated from New Ulm High School in 1953, where he was a standout baseball and basketball player; in 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment (11th Airborne Division), where he completed 27 jumps as a paratrooper and served as a medic; he saw tours of duty in Germany and Alaska and continued his baseball playing days in the Army; he married Jean Lorraine Simonson in Kiester, Minnesota on August 24, 1957; he attended college on the GI Bill and graduated from University of Minnesota in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy; while attending "the U," he played varsity baseball for three years, and his team won the College World Series his junior year in 1960; he was captain of the baseball team his senior year; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff moved to Des Moines, Iowa and began working for McGladrey's in their audit department; in 1968, he was promoted to partner and transferred to the Moline office, where he remained until his retirement in 1987; following two years of consulting, he became corporate controller and then chief financial officer at A.D. Huesing; he served as president of the Illinois CPA Society and participated in the national American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; he retired and became successful at selling Daily Dispatch newspaper subscriptions; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff's passion was golf; he was a member of the Short Hills Country Club for 50 years and carded two holes-in-one there within two weeks of each other in 2013; he and Jean enjoyed many years of the Gold Cup competition in Las Vegas; he often played in the Wednesday pro-am event at the Q.C. Open/Hardee's Golf Classic, the precursor to the John Deere Classic; he also enjoyed competing in the father-son tournaments at the Short Hills Country Club and the Midlothian Country Club; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff had been a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he was treasurer and sat on the endowment committee; he was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was a reader and faithfully attended services and men's breakfasts; he volunteered often throughout his life; he sat on the board of the Mississippi Valley Council for Girl Scouts of America and raised funds for the successful 1981 Moline schools referendum and the construction of the new Moline Public Library; he was a soccer referee, a member of the Moline Rotary, and part of the Moline American Legion Post #246 Honor Guard; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff was preceded in death by his siblings, Vernon (Alice) Rolloff, Lorna (Albert) Mangen, and Irene (Tony) VanderBeke, and his brother-in-law, Dale Simonson; and

WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean; his children, Julie (Joe) Schwab and Jason (Colleen) Rolloff; his grandsons, David, Brian, and Matthew Schwab and Brendan and Logan Rolloff; his siblings, Wesley (Jan) and Gene (Joanie) Rolloff; his sisters-in-law, Carol (Byron) Sadler and Fran Simonson; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Calvin Oren "Cal" Rolloff and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cal Rolloff as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
