SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Calvin Oren "Cal" Rolloff of Moline, who
4passed away on October 23, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff was born on the family farm in New
6Ulm, Minnesota to Herman and Oralia (Lambert) Rolloff on
7September 18, 1934; he graduated from New Ulm High School in
81953, where he was a standout baseball and basketball player;
9in 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the
10503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment (11th Airborne Division),
11where he completed 27 jumps as a paratrooper and served as a
12medic; he saw tours of duty in Germany and Alaska and continued
13his baseball playing days in the Army; he married Jean Lorraine
14Simonson in Kiester, Minnesota on August 24, 1957; he attended
15college on the GI Bill and graduated from University of
16Minnesota in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy;
17while attending "the U," he played varsity baseball for three
18years, and his team won the College World Series his junior
19year in 1960; he was captain of the baseball team his senior
20year; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff moved to Des Moines, Iowa and began
22working for McGladrey's in their audit department; in 1968, he
23was promoted to partner and transferred to the Moline office,

1where he remained until his retirement in 1987; following two
2years of consulting, he became corporate controller and then
3chief financial officer at A.D. Huesing; he served as president
4of the Illinois CPA Society and participated in the national
5American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; he retired
6and became successful at selling Daily Dispatch newspaper
7subscriptions; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff's passion was golf; he was a member of
9the Short Hills Country Club for 50 years and carded two
10holes-in-one there within two weeks of each other in 2013; he
11and Jean enjoyed many years of the Gold Cup competition in Las
12Vegas; he often played in the Wednesday pro-am event at the
13Q.C. Open/Hardee's Golf Classic, the precursor to the John
14Deere Classic; he also enjoyed competing in the father-son
15tournaments at the Short Hills Country Club and the Midlothian
16Country Club; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff had been a long-time member of Faith
18Lutheran Church, where he was treasurer and sat on the
19endowment committee; he was currently a member of Trinity
20Lutheran Church, where he was a reader and faithfully attended
21services and men's breakfasts; he volunteered often throughout
22his life; he sat on the board of the Mississippi Valley Council
23for Girl Scouts of America and raised funds for the successful
241981 Moline schools referendum and the construction of the new

1Moline Public Library; he was a soccer referee, a member of the
2Moline Rotary, and part of the Moline American Legion Post #246
3Honor Guard; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff was preceded in death by his siblings,
5Vernon (Alice) Rolloff, Lorna (Albert) Mangen, and Irene (Tony)
6VanderBeke, and his brother-in-law, Dale Simonson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Cal Rolloff is survived by his wife of 62 years,
8Jean; his children, Julie (Joe) Schwab and Jason (Colleen)
9Rolloff; his grandsons, David, Brian, and Matthew Schwab and
10Brendan and Logan Rolloff; his siblings, Wesley (Jan) and Gene
11(Joanie) Rolloff; his sisters-in-law, Carol (Byron) Sadler and
12Fran Simonson; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Calvin Oren "Cal" Rolloff and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Cal Rolloff as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
