SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mattie Hines, who passed away on January
4 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on June 3, 1917 in Owensboro,
6 Kentucky to Lula Mae and Willie Palmer; and
 
7     WHEREAS, She was a graduate of Western High School in
8 Owensboro, Kentucky; she later attended Kentucky State College
9 where she met and married William Atwood; she later married
10 Isaac Hines; she moved to Chicago in 1936 and worked at Jones
11 and Jones Drug Store for many years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She was loved by all who met her; she found beauty
13 and goodness in everyone and had a positive outlook on life;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her
16 husband, Isaac; her sisters, Irene Koker, Catherine Palmer,
17 Ruth Helen Palmer, Georgella Williams, and Jamesetta Spencer;
18 and her brothers, Alfred Palmer and John Palmer; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mattie Hines is survived by her daughter,
20 Gwendolyn (Atwood) Butler; her grandchildren, Valerie (Don

1 Newbern) Butler-Newbern and Richard Eugene (Robin) Butler III;
2 her great-grandchildren, Tiffany Gwen Newbern, Brent Newbern,
3 Richard Eugene Butler IV, Rena Butler, Raiven Butler, and
4 Randyll Butler; her brother, Clay Palmer; her nephew, Tashonn
5 Antinori; her extended family, Lee Sewell, Ida "Pres" Preston,
6 the Bonds, and Barbara (Doll) Newbern; and her special friends
7 that were as close as family; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 her family and friends, the passing of Mattie Hines; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Mattie Hines as a symbol of our
14 sincere sympathy.
