SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Matteson Village President Mark Stricker, who passed away on August 17, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a resident of the Village of Matteson for 45 years; he first served Matteson as a trustee before being elected Village President, where he served for over 25 years as a loyal and dedicated servant to the residents of Matteson; he also served as a volunteer with the Matteson Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker had a long and distinguished career in education; he served as a teacher at Tinley Park High School for 36 years; he was also a Past President of the Elementary School District #159 Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker oversaw expansion of the community, and worked to draw business back to the Lincoln Mall; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker lobbied the Cook County Board to develop a four-mile forest preserve path along Flossmoor and Vollmer Roads; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker created high-end and middle-class housing in the village, which contributed to the high standard of living; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a member of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, where he served as Past-President, Executive Board Member, and Chairperson of the Transportation Committee; he served as an Advisory Board Member of the Matteson Area Chamber of Commerce and was a Board Member of the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau; he was also a member of Greater Chicago Council of Governments and was one of 17 mayors in the State of Illinois elected to serve on the Board of the Illinois Tax Increment Finance Committee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a member of Crete Lodge #763 and the Illinois Board of Governors Member of Order of the Eastern Star; he was also an A.F. & A.M. Past Worthy Grand Patron; and

WHEREAS, Mark Stricker was the beloved and caring husband of 51 years to Charlotte Stricker, nee Sandvois; the loving father of Lynne (Daryl) LoSchiavo and Jean (Tod) Jacobson; the cherished grandfather of James, David, Jaron, and Austin; and the fond stepbrother of Walter (Virginia) Meisner and Katherine (late Ted) Meisner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and community, the passing of Village President Mark Stricker; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mark Stricker as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
