SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Hugh O. Worthen of Alton, who passed away
4 on June 3, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Hugh O. Worthen was born March 7, 1914, in
6 Murphysboro to Charles and Edith (Porter) Worthen; he married
7 the former Dorothy L. Raines on June 15, 1940; she passed away
8 on June 13, 1997; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was a veteran of the National Guard Calvary
10 Division out of New Mexico; he taught fourth grade at Lincoln
11 School in Wood River, as well as serving as the school
12 principal; he later went to work for Amoco as a fuel blender,
13 retiring in 1978 after 36 years; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Worthen was a city councilman in Wood River
15 from 1952 to 1962 and served on the Wood River School Board
16 from 1946 to 1962; he was an officer at the Central States
17 Petroleum Union and a member of the First United Methodist
18 Church, Standard Oil Torch Club, and Music Makers Group; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death
20 by his parents and three brothers, Elmer, Charles and Clifford
21 Worthen; and

1     WHEREAS, Hugh Worthen is survived by his two daughters and
2 one son-in-law, Marcia and Dan Harmon and Diana Worthen; his
3 two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sherrill Worthen and
4 Gary and Leslie Worthen; his six grandchildren; his five
5 great-grandsons; and his three sisters and two
6 brothers-in-law, Mary and Hubert Walsh, Margaret Howard, and
7 Agnes and Gene Dale; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of Hugh O. Worthen; and be
11 it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Hugh O. Worthen as a symbol of our
14 sincere sympathy.
