SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mary K. McCloskey of Alton, who passed
4 away on January 13, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born February 11, 1909, in Marion,
6 Indiana, and raised in New Castle, Indiana, by her parents
7 Felix and Nola (Brown) Peckinpaugh; she attended Iowa State
8 University, where she joined Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated
9 with a master's degree in education; following graduation, she
10 taught home economics in South Bend, Indiana; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She married Dr. James D. McCloskey; after he
12 completed medical residency at the University of Iowa, they
13 moved to Alton where Dr. McCloskey was a noted ENT surgeon and
14 she became an enthusiastic community volunteer; she was active
15 in St. Joseph Hospital and Madison County Medical Society
16 auxiliaries, League of Women Voters, American Association of
17 University Women, and Zonta International; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She taught emergency mass feeding classes for the
19 American Red Cross, volunteered at her children's schools, and
20 led Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops; after the passing of her
21 husband in 1963, she returned to the work force as a social
22 worker for the State of Illinois; she rose to supervisory

1 positions prior to retirement; after retirement she returned to
2 community service, but devoted much of her time and energy to
3 enjoying and helping family and friends; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Provost and
5 Margaret Hammons; a son, James McCloskey; along with eleven
6 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Mary K. McCloskey; and
10 be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Mary K. McCloskey as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy.
