SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former McHenry County College President Robert C. Bartlett, who passed away on January 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bartlett was born April 25, 1937 in Melrose Park to Harry and Irene (Callen) Bartlett; and

WHEREAS, He married Rosemary Heiman on May 28, 1977 in Crystal Lake; he graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in industrial education in 1959 and earned his master's in education in 1962; he continued his doctoral study at University of Chicago and doctoral candidacy at Michigan State University; and

WHEREAS, He worked as the assistant executive secretary and consultant examiner for the Commission of Institutions of Higher Education and North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, was the dean of instruction at McHenry County College from 1973 to 1979, was the president of McHenry County College from 1979 to 1997, and had been president emeritus; after he retired, he stayed active in the community, serving as chairman of the Curriculum and Administrative Services Committees of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents; and

WHEREAS, He also served as a member of the board of the Education to Careers Group of McHenry County, McHenry County United Way, chairman of the Agency Relations Committee of the McHenry County United Way, as well as director of research, founding, and continuing member for the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation; he was also a member of the board and ambassador emeritus of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Business Development and Support Committee of the Crystal Lake Chamber and a former board member of Hospice of Northeastern Illinois; and he enjoyed fishing and boating on Crystal Lake, gardening, and spending time with family; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his children William Clark, Beth Christensen-Smith, and Fred Clarke; and

WHEREAS, Robert Bartlett is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his sister, Barbara "Babs" Cerny; his children, Deborah (Jeff) Curey, Dawn (James) Adams, Cindy (Mike) Ray, Linda (Gregg) Rice, and Tom (Colleen) Clarke; ;his grandchildren, Max Bartlett, Michael Christensen, Kevin Christensen, Cody, Nicholas, and Luke Ray, Robyn Clarke, William Clarke, and Julia Rice; his great grandchildren, Austin, Jacob, and Colin Christensen; his nephews, Dean and Robbie Cerny; his best bud Sarah; and many extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Bartlett; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Bartlett as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
