SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dora Mikoff-Markel of Alton, who passed
4 away on March 27, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel was born on March 30, 1930 in
6 Alton; she was the daughter of Lee and Grace (Field) Whiteside;
7 she married Roscoe Russell Mikoff Sr. on June 30, 1947 in
8 Alton; he preceded her in death in 1992; she married Art Markel
9 on July 16, 2005 in Alton; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel owned and operated Dorrie's
11 Home Cafe for eight years, Moderne Beauty Salon for 11 years,
12 and worked at the snack counter at Bowl Haven for 11 years; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel was an avid bowler and loved to
14 cook for her family and friends; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel was the amazing mother of four
16 children; Roscoe Mikoff Jr. and his wife, Rosie, Nick Mikoff
17 and his wife, Barb, Karen Dorris and her husband, Terry, and
18 Susan Weaver and her husband, Garry; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel was preceded in death by her
20 parents; her first husband; her brother, Don Whiteside; and her

1 sisters, Mary Fleming, Betty DeRoy and Viola Schlobaum; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Dora Mikoff-Markel is survived by her
3 grandchildren, Kara Greenwood (Matt), Aaron Mikoff (Emily
4 Vetter), Michael Mikoff, Andrew and Kelly Dorris, and John and
5 David Weaver; her great-grandchildren, Kara Vetter, Sophia and
6 Alaina Greenwood, and Nathan and David Mikoff; and her brother,
7 Leroy Whiteside and his wife, Gloria; she was also blessed by
8 Art Markel's surviving children, Vicky and Jim Swinney, Marie
9 and Ron Daube, and Carla and Al Pranaitis; and Art Markel's six
10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 12
11 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 her family and friends, the passing of Dora Mikoff-Markel; and
15 be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Dora Mikoff-Markel as an expression
18 of our sympathy.
