SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dorothy Murray of Peoria, who passed away
4 on March 10, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray was born on January 1, 1934 in
6 Chicago; she met her husband, Elliott, at First Presbyterian
7 Church of Chicago, where they married in 1963; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray graduated from Chicago State
9 University; she taught grade school in Chicago for 10 years
10 before moving to Peoria in 1967; in 1968, she opened and was
11 head teacher at the Common Place Pre-School; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 1978, Dorothy Murray earned her master's degree
13 in counseling and human development from Bradley University,
14 where she also served as a counselor; she then served as a
15 counselor at Human Service Center for 10 years, and then became
16 a full-time counselor again at Bradley University until her
17 retirement in 1999; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray was active as a volunteer and board
19 member in many groups, including the NAACP, the Center for
20 Prevention of Abuse, the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, WCBU, the
21 Peoria Area Friends of International Students, the ICC

1 Foundation Board, and Planned Parenthood; she recently worked
2 with Global Village, a fair trade store in Peoria Heights, and
3 was a volunteer tutor in District 150 schools; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray loved music and theater; she played
5 and formerly taught piano; she was an avid supporter of the
6 Peoria Symphony and local jazz and blues artists; her acting
7 career began with the lead role in the Bradley production of
8 "Trouble in Mind" in 1995; she also played numerous small roles
9 in a number of Cornstock Lab shows; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray is survived by her husband and her
11 sons, Ralph and Vincent; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Dorothy Murray will be remembered by all who knew
13 and loved her as a beautiful, loving, and compassionate woman
14 with a true gift of friendship; she will be greatly missed by
15 her family and her many friends; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18 her family and friends, the passing of Dorothy Murray; and be
19 it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Dorothy Murray as an expression of
