SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George A. Hartley of Orland Park, who passed away on January 17, 2008; and

WHEREAS, George Hartley was born in Chicago; he lived in Lockport for 35 years before moving to Orland Park; and

WHEREAS, George Hartley was employed with the Indiana Harbor Belt Rail Road for 50 years and the GATX Terminal Corporation for 30 years before his retirement in 1998; and

WHEREAS, George Hartley was the founder and former Treasurer of the Bonnie Brae-Forest Manor Sanitary District; he was the former President and Trustee of the Lockport Library Board; he was the former Assistant Supervisor of the Will County Board, the former Director of Joliet Regional Port Authority, and the former Trustee of the Lockport Township Fire District; he served as the Lockport Township Democratic Chairman and Committeeman and as a former Will County Democratic Chairman; he was also a member of Lockport VFW Post #5788, Lockport American Legion John Olson Post #18, and Lockport Moose Lodge #1557; and

WHEREAS, George Hartley was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, and his sister; and

WHEREAS, George Hartley is survived by his children, Cathie (Vic) Getson, George Cary (Carol), Cindy, Sharon, Ken (Denise), Carol (James) Cates, Karen (Rick) Russell, Sandy Simmons, and Kim; his 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of George A. Hartley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George A. Hartley as an expression of our sympathy.
