SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. John E. Berthoud, who passed away on September 27, 2007; and

WHEREAS, John Berthoud was born on May 23, 1962; and

WHEREAS, John Berthoud earned his master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University and his doctorate degree in political economy from Yale University; and

WHEREAS, John Berthoud was an active member in many civic organizations; he served as president of the National Taxpayers Union and National Taxpayers Union Foundation since 1997; he was a previous vice-president of the Alexis deTocqueville Institution; he was a previous Director for Fiscal Policy for the American Legislative Exchange Council; and

WHEREAS, John Berthoud is survived by his mother, Joan, and his brothers, William and Charles, and their families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Berthoud; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Berthoud as an expression of our sympathy.
