SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leon V. Barrows of Black River Falls,
4 Wisconsin, and formerly of Waukegan, who passed away on
5 December 15, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Leon V. Barrows was born on December 22, 1923 in
7 Waukegan to Vincent A. and Theresa (Bury) Barrows; he was
8 raised in Waukegan and had the distinction of being a member of
9 the first grade school class to graduate from Holy Family
10 School, North Chicago; he later graduated from Waukegan
11 Township High School; and
 
12     WHEREAS, From 1941 to 1946, he served in the United States
13 Army Air Corps; he was a World War II veteran who served in the
14 European Theater; he married Mary Anne Edmonds and they were
15 later divorced; he was employed by National Press of Waukegan;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, He lived in Waukegan most of his life and moved to
18 Black River Falls, Wisconsin in 1989 and later moved to Blair;
19 he later returned to Black River Falls; Leon was a member of
20 St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Black River Falls, the Graphics
21 Arts Union/Teamsters Union, Knights of Columbus Council 4697 of
22 Black River Falls, and American Veterans Post 5494 of Black

1 River Falls; he also was a life member of American Legion Post
2 0771 of Gurnee, and a life member of VFW Post 11156 of Gurnee;
3 he enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, and crossword puzzles; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and a
5 son, Mark; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Leon Barrows is survived by his four daughters,
7 Sue (Terry) Voeller, Linda (Terry) Dodge, Jacqueline Genunzio,
8 and Nancy Barrows; his four sons, Robert (Cathy) Barrows, Leon
9 Jr., Jeffrey (Dawn) Barrows, and Patrick (Kathy) Barrows; his
10 16 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his
11 great-great-grandson; his former wife and close friend, Mary
12 Anne Hamilton; his three sisters, Eileen Smith, Joanne
13 (Chester) Chase, and Patricia Theil; his three brothers, Robert
14 (Aldona) Barrows, Donald (Nancy) Barrows, and Jack (Maryann)
15 Barrows; and numerous other relatives and friends; therefore,
16 be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of Leon Barrows; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Leon Barrows as a symbol of our
