SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Steven James Lyons, who passed away on November 5, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons was born on July 11, 1986 in Chicago; he was the first child of Serbrena Friend-Lyons and Robert Lyons; and

WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons attended St. Sabina Academy from preschool until eighth grade, where he graduated as a principal scholar; he went on to attend Leo High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors; he then attended college at Southern Illinois University; he was pursuing an associate's degree in criminal justice and was on the Dean's List at Richard J. Daley College at the time of his passing; he planned to attend Chicago State University the following spring to obtain his bachelor's degree; and

WHEREAS, While attending college, Steven James Lyons was employed with United Parcel Services, where he was known as an exemplary employee; and

WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons was an avid sports fan; he played baseball for the Jackie Robinson West League, football and basketball while attending St. Sabina Academy, and baseball while attending Leo High School; and

WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons is survived by his mother, Serbrena; his brother, Andre Loren Lyons; his grandmother, Betty L. Johnson; his many aunts, uncles, and special cousins; Loretta Glover, Laura H. Byrd, George Mangum, Earline Mangum, James Mangum, Clyde and Maggie Mangum, Raylen Opara, Brenda Reese-Ward, John Reese, Renee (Marshall) Byrd-Sullivan, Nia Sullivan, Dorrianne Sullivan, Eddie (Kim) Byrd, Jackson Byrd, Paris Byrd, Otis (Patria) Wise, April, O.J., and Paris Wise, and Carla Thornton; and his very special friends, Aaron Calhourn, Brian and Brandon White, Cornelius Clark, Jamel Blankenship, Charles Rhodes, Sylvester Harrison, Jamel Franklin, and Elliot Norwood, among many others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Steven James Lyons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steven James Lyons as an expression of our sympathy.
