SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army Specialist Keith Nurnberg of McHenry, who was killed in action on September 5, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Keith Nurnberg grew up in McHenry; he graduated from McHenry West High School in 1999, where he ran track; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Keith Nurnberg enlisted in the United States Army at age 22, carrying on the traditions of his great grandfather, who fought in the First World War, his grandfather, who fought in the Second World War, and his father, who fought in the Vietnam War; he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Benning, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, After a whirlwind courtship, Spc. Keith Nurnberg married Tonya Hopkins in Richmond a week before he left for Georgia to prepare for his second tour of duty in Iraq; their first child, who is to be named Keith, is due to be born in November of 2007; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Keith Nurnberg was a Chicago Bears fan who enjoyed fishing and spending time in the outdoors; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Keith Nurnberg is survived by his wife, Tonya; his unborn son, Keith; his parents, Barb and Al; his sisters, Christi, Melissa, and Kimmi; and his nephews and nieces; and

WHEREAS, Spc. Keith Nurnberg will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a person with a good sense of humor and a light-hearted personality; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of U.S. Army Specialist Keith Nurnberg; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of U.S. Army Specialist Keith Nurnberg and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of U.S. Army Specialist Keith Nurnberg as an expression of our sympathy.
