SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of James Hubbard of Batavia, who passed away
4 on August 9, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, James Hubbard was one of four children and was a
6 lifelong Batavia resident; and
 
7     WHEREAS, James Hubbard served with the Army Air Forces as
8 captain of a B-24 Liberator bomber and as a flight instructor
9 from 1942 to 1945; the Second World War ended just before his
10 unit was to be sent overseas; after his discharge from the Army
11 Air Force, he returned to Batavia and worked at the Batavia
12 Herald, where he ran the printing press and was office manager;
13 in 1947, he married his wife of 60 years, Mollyanne; and
 
14     WHEREAS, In 1953, James Hubbard joined Hubbard and Johnson
15 Furniture, which was started by his father Gustav Hubbard in
16 1910 in downtown Batavia, with his brothers, Paul and Warren;
17 they later changed the name of the store to Hubbard's Ethan
18 Allen; he retired in 1984 when he and his brothers sold the
19 business to other family members; and
 
20     WHEREAS, For many years, James Hubbard volunteered for
21 various charities, such as Wayside Ministries in Aurora, Meals

1 on Wheels, and Hesed House, a women's shelter in Aurora; and
 
2     WHEREAS, James Hubbard is survived by his wife, Mollyanne;
3 his sons, Ron, Donald, and Daniel; his daughter, Kathleen; 10
4 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 his family and friends, the passing of James Hubbard; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of James Hubbard as an expression of
11 our sympathy.
