SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Corethea A. Davis of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis was born on September 22, 1945; her parents were Norethea and John Floyd; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis began her life in Raleigh, North Carolina, but traveled with her family to New Jersey at an early age, with a subsequent move to Chicago; she accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Metropolitan Community Church and the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church; she attended Wendell Phillips High School and further enriched her knowledge at a variety of institutions, receiving certifications in several paraprofessional areas; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis had a long and varied professional career spanning many years and many organizations; she worked for the National Office of the Girl Scouts of America as an Organizer and as a Clerk with the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis married her high school sweetheart Michael Johnson in 1963; following their union, the family moved to Burns Flat, Oklahoma; after Mr. Johnson's discharge from the military, the family returned to Chicago; a few years after the dissolution of their marriage, Corethea A. Davis married Reynold Davis; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Aubrey; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis is survived by her daughters, Alderman Latasha R. (Timothy) Thomas and Teresa M. Johnson; her sons, Aubrey J. Davis and Michael H. Davis; her sister, Starlina Floyd; her grandchildren, Victoria O. N. Thomas and Timothy Thomas III; her aunt, Sylvia Bradsher; her godson, Napoleon Black; her goddaughters, Denise Beaman and Zarkia Smith; and many other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis will be remembered by all who knew her as a friendly, warm person who was able to see beneath the surface of any individual and see the good that resided within them; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Corethea A. Davis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Corethea A. Davis as an expression of our sympathy.
